I received a text message the other day and among the many words, one sentence spurred my mind and spirit into a whirlwind of thoughts. “Practice what you believe.”
It seems so simple-yet why do so many of us get trapped in the words of Christianity and forget the action. If we are going to speak and teach about purity then shouldn’t our clothes, music, conversations and relationships reflect purity? Here is one that I was thinking about this morning- if someone could tap into the text messages of the Church what would the inbox reveal? Would they see words of encouragement, love , and accountability or gossip, profanities, and impurity? We preach and teach, ” love your neighbor as yourself” yet do we mock, gossip, and lie to our “best friends.”? We claim we have a Pastor and accountability in our life, yet when we are corrected or given wisdom do we become offended and bitter?
If we truly desire to be a set apart generation then we need to align our beliefs (that come from the Word of God) with our everyday actions . There is a power and authority on someone’s words when they are LIVED out, not just spoken. Only someone who lives a life of intimacy and prayer with God can have the anointing to convict and teach people about prayer. I believe we will begin to see breakthrough when our lives truly reflect our beliefs. “Faith without works is dead (James 2:17).”
We can believe all we want in abstaining from impurity in our lives, but if our actions do not align with that, then our beliefs have no power or authority. Let us not become a generation with powerless beliefs.I pray we would be a generation that is dedicated to exemplifying the Word of God. That we would have the authority to preach and teach because our beliefs are supported by actions.
